Coach: Enzo Bearzot Achievements: World Cup 1982 Key Players: Rossi, Zoff, Conti, Tardelli, Scirea, Gentile Star Player: Rossi Formation: 5-2-3
One of the World Cup's great stories - after starting slowly (this was to become an Italian habit) the team overcame a great Brazil team and won a classic final against West Germany, Paolo Rossi returning from a match-fixing ban to inspire his team to victory. This was a great side, with a typically tough Italian defence based on a sweeper system, a hardworking and committed midfield (think of Tardelli's celebration) and no shortage of class up front.
