After Ajax's feats Bayern Munich repeated the extraordinary triumph of three consecutive European Cups. This was based on the attacking sweeper role pioneered by the great Franz Beckenbauer. He was supported by great players including the prolific Gerd Muller. This team formed the spine of the similarly successfull German national side of the time.
